In light of the earlier story about 104 year-old Ivy Bean I thought I would see what it’s like on the other side of the world, Japan to be a bit more precise.
The number of centenarians in Japan is expected to reach 40,399 in mid-September, breaking the 40,000 threshold for the first time at an accelerated pace, a government survey showed Friday as the latest evidence that society is greying rapidly.
Most people know that Japan has one of the highest life expectancy averages in the world between 81 and 82 years! Thanks to a healthy eating regime, more exercise and being able to take stress as it comes are all ways to increase your life expectancy. It is staggering to believe of such longevity but sure enough Japan is turning into an aging society where new problems will need new solutions ranging from employment, personal care and public facilities. Will there be a voluntary reduction scheme? Probably not.
