What is one of the solutions to an ever increasing Japan’s problematic ageing population(See here)? According to scientists its robotic bears that could carry you safely around.
Robot for Interactive Body Assistance or RIBA as it’s more commonly known can hold as much as 61kg (135 lbs).
RIBA is the first robot that can lift up or set down a real human from or to a bed or wheelchair. RIBA does this using its very strong human-like arms and by novel tactile guidance methods using high-accuracy tactile sensors. RIBA was developed by integrating RIKEN’s control, sensor, and information processing and TRI’s material and structural design technologies.
Designed by (RIKEN) and Tokai Rubber Industries say that this could be produced and in action within five years.
