Based on a book by Cormac McCarthy who was also the writer of ‘No Country for Old Men’ comes one of his other well received works ‘The Road‘. Set in an apocalyptic wasteland where an unknown event has occurred are ‘The Man’ (Viggo “Aragorn” Mortenson) and ‘The Boy’ (Kodi Smit-McPhee).
A father and son who are travelling on a journey to find some kind of respite from the ever increasing threat of the coming winter. They go on a journey to find other people like them and the hope of salvation. The Sun is covered by a thick layer of ash, plants cannot grow and the remaining survivors turn to cannibalism and violence with no reason.
The original book won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for fiction and is definitely worth a read if the hordes of positive reviews by readers and the industry itself are anything to go by. If you haven’t yet don’t worry as the film adaptation gets released on January 10th 2010 in the U.K. and October 16th 2009 in the US. Trailer in the link!
